Max Keller writes about classical music and queerness.

Their reporting, essays, and criticism have appeared in the The New York Times, The Nation, The Brooklyn Rail, Parterre Box, Electric Literature, and on substack as Poison Put to Sound. Keller has also written program notes for Juilliard415 and a curatorial essay for The Metropolitan Museum of Art. They have received an ASCAP Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Award and a critique writing award from the National Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists.

Raised on outer Cape Cod, Keller got their start in journalism at the Provincetown Independent, where they were arts editor. They hold degrees in music from Harvard University and the University of Edinburgh, and are a PhD candidate in musicology at the CUNY Graduate Center. They teach music journalism at Queens College, and are open to speaking and writing opportunities including guest lectures, program notes, and liner notes.
